In a momentous stride for weather and climate science in Southern Africa, the Malawi Meteorological Society (MAMESO) was officially launched on 30 April 2024—marking a transformative chapter for the meteorological community in Malawi and the region at large. With a bold vision to advance meteorology and allied sciences, MAMESO is not only a platform for scientific excellence but a beacon of hope in the continent’s fight against climate change.
At its core, MAMESO is a non-profit, professional organization with a mission that transcends academia. It seeks to create a dynamic interface between science, society, and policy. Through its objectives—ranging from promoting meteorological research to engaging the public in weather education—the society intends to weave meteorology into the very fabric of national development.
